Money for Nothing

Remember that song from the 80s, sung by Dire Straits? "Get your money for nothing and your chicks for free?" The whole thing was about being in a rock and roll band, earning more than you really should for the effort required, and presumably having lots of girls hanging around. It was a fun novelty song (probably autobiographical) that I enjoyed hearning on the radio until I bought the 45 record. On the record, the studio version has a verse that uses the term "faggot," which in good conscience I could not listen to then or now. The radio version had left that whole verse out. Go figure. It wouldn't be left out today.

Well, I didn't post to talk about Dire Straits, but instead about the joy of getting money for nothing. Don't you love those days when you throw on a jacket or pair of pants and find money you left in the pocket? Those are the best ... free money!!! .... It's all about perception, isn't it?

Yesterday I got a check for $800 of free money. Seems our mortgage company was collecting too much escrow surplus from us, and we reached a point where they were required by law to refund the extra. That amounted to $800 or so. They did not, incidently, refund our money with interest. What a shock.

So, I've got $800 to spend! Guess I'll go fill up the care AND the van with gas. That should just about come out even.
