This and That

It's a beautiful snowy morning in Cedar Rapids. Some of you might say that the words "snow," "Cedar Rapids," and "beautiful" create some sort of strange oxymoron. Outside my office window are some big pine trees that jave pure white snow weighting down the branches -- the kind of scene that would be in a winter painting or a snow globe.

My weight this morning was 168, two pounds down from my Monday weigh-in of 170. I fugured that during the first week I might shed a couple of pounds (water weight). Now the tough part comes. Last night, our friends Kurt and Rebecca delivered a tin of Christmas goodies. Help!!! Tonight we have dinner with the Jurgensmeiers, the first meal this week that I can't control. Double help!!! And when am I going to find time for the treadmill today? Yikes!

I really appreciate the daily blog of Mike Cope (link to the right). Mike is the teaching minister at the Highland church of Christ in Abilene, Texas. Mike and I have never met, so I don't know him personally in any way except through his blog. But I like what I read, and the thoughts his writings provoke in me.

Did anyone see the junior high basketball game played down in Iowa City last night? I'm referring to the Iowa/North Carolina State affair that Iowa "won" 45-42. Looked like junior high basketball ... girls junior high basketball (no offense meant to the women out there). If the Hawks are the 15th best team in the country, as the pollsters claim, that doesn't say too much about the other couple hundred programs in the country. But a win is a win, and we'll take it Hawk fans.
