Becoming Blog Famous

My inlaws, who buzz by this blog every once in awhile, asked me if I thought anyone read this drivel. I responded by saying, "maybe five or so are regular readers." I think I could name you all, but I wouldn't want to embarass you, or me :-)

One day I went to the top of my blog page and hit the little button in the right corner that says, "next blog." It does what it says it will do -- goes to the next blog. The cycle appears to be completely random, because if you go forward one, then back to mine, then forward one again, the second time around you get a different "next blog" than the first time. I did this 20 times or so to see what I might find out there in blogland.

I was a little surprised. Blogs are used for all kinds of things. About half the blogs were in a foreign language. Two or three were retail sites of one kind or another. Another couple were porn sites (I think the same site with a different blog address each time). Many were pages that were started and then never returned to.

But a few were "established" sites with readers. They had page counters that indicated hundreds of thousands of guests. Their articles had 30, 40, even 50 replies. They had a following ... they were becoming "blog famous."

My intent is never to become blog famous, but I do hope that my friends and family find the blog writing interesting, entertaining, and/or informative.

My daughter turned 9 yesterday at 1:20 p.m. (or so). The worst thing about my daughter's birthday is that it occurs 10 days before mine, and it's a reminder that the older she gets, the older I get. The best thing about Allie turning 9 is that she is becoming a beautiful, fun, interesting, spiritual, responsible young lady (she hates when I call her a young lady). My wife loves to tell people that as my daughter gets older, I'm less able to maintain any kind of composure when watching "Father of the Bride." She's right.
