Super Day

I didn't really have a team to cheer for in yesterday's Super Bowl. In part, because I don't really have a favorite professional football team. And if I were forced to come up with one, it wouldn't be Pittsburg or Seattle.

I cheered for Seattle because they were the underdog franchise. First trip to the Super Bowl in team history, and for nearly all of the individual players. My rooting for them clearly tipped the scales in Pittsburg's favor. Sorry, Seahawks.

For some of us, the game is overshadowed by the new commercials that advertisers have spent millions to create and show specifically during the game. Lots of beer commercials, and car commercials. I have to be honest ... I kinda liked the Burger King commercial for the Whopper, which showed people dressed up as pickles, lettuce, onions, etc. being added to the burger, only to be smushed by the top of the bun. It was the most unique hamburger commercial since the Wendy's "Where's the Beef" schtick.

It was also my wife's 35th birthday, celebrated by family and friends throughout the weekend. So, Super Bowl or not, it was a super day.

I must confess that when I saw the Whopper ad, I was thinking it was a commercial for the small, chocolate candies ("Whoppers"). Needless to say, the ad didn't make much sense until my wife explained to my daughter that the one costume was a hamburger patty. It seems that my daughter figured out the onions and pickles, but the hamburger patty tripped her up.

So, the verdict about this commercial in my household was a bit different.

Then, to top it all off, about the time that I understood what was happening, the condiments were diving onto the patty. I admit that was fun. However, my wife (her tastes are usually more refined than mine) thought it was just stupid.
