Creature Comforts

Now that our house buying and selling has been settled and we're in a holding pattern for a few weeks, my mind has started to relax a bit. This got me to thinking about what kinds of things I like to do in my downtime. What would the perfect day look like?

  • 7:30 a.m. It's about time to get out of bed. Yes, I'd like to think I could sleep late, but the truth is that I'm not a late sleeper. My internal alarm went off an hour ago, so I might as well get up. After all, I've got a great day to look forward to.
  • 8:00 By now Michelle has made me an omelet with lots of cheese, some bacon and/or ham. Maybe some sausage on the side. If it's the perfect day, Michelle has cooked. But if SHE is planning HER prefect day on the same day as mine, she won't be out of bed for another hour or two.
  • 8:30 Time to spread out the paper and read the sports page word-for-word. The rest of the paper will be picked over, looking for the most interesting articles. If I've got a book to read, or a Bible passage to study, I'll do this now too.
  • 9:45 Time to tee off. A perfect day would include golf, and a good round, no less.
  • 2 p.m. I had a bratwurst on the course and shot a 39. Now, where are those kids of mine? It's time to play Monopoly. Allie and Sam like to play, Michelle tolerates it, and I always enjoy it.
  • 3:00 Monopoly can only last an hour with the kids, cause they get restless. Too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing. The kids will head off to quiet time for 90 minutes. I'll flip channels to find some kind of sports event, or a rerun of an old show. Better yet, the Patriot is on TBS and I can catch almost the whole thing while the kids are tucked away in their rooms.
  • 5:00 Time to start planning dinner. It would include two courses -- pizza and ice cream. Meatlovers would be ideal, and Breyers vanilla bean would be generously served afterward. Whether just our family or with friends, the menu would be the same.
  • 6:00 It was sunny and cool all day, but now it has clouded up and a gentle rain is falling. I'm sitting on the couch listening to music, looking out the window, with a blanket wrapped around me. Its a little cool in the house, so I'm covered up to my chin. Maybe I'll do some more reading, or read with the kids, or play checkers/Connect Four.
  • 7:30 Kids are getting out of the bath and we get to read and pray before bed. Allie and Sam don't say their "normal" prayer, which we all have memorized to the word, but instead actually pray about something going on around us. By 8:00 they are in bed and they DO NOT come to the stairs every 10 minutes with a request for the bathroom, water, fan, or anything else!
  • 8:30 Time with Michelle. It probably involves TV for awhile cause that's how my wife tends to wind down after the kids are in bed. I'm munching on popcorn. Pizza, bratwurst, ice cream and popcorn ... my favorite food groups all in one day.
  • 9:30 ...............
  • 10:00 Michelle and I drift to a cool night of sleep. The comforter is on the bed, windows open, the rain still softly coming down. Thank you God for this great day.

What does your day look like?

Change it to Godfather's taco pizza, Bunny Tracks ice cream with lots of hot fudge, You've Got Mail, When Harry Met Sally, Princess Bride..., and some shopping thrown in and you've got me! By the way, if 9:30 is what I think it is, how 'bout tonight?

I was just thinking you left out one very IMPORTANT part of your perfect day! Then I read your wife's comment! :)
