We spent a great day Friday making the tourism loop through the Rushmore area. The presidents are still on the face of the mountain, the breeze still blows through Wind Cave, Crazy Horse is still being defined from the rock of the Black Hills, and Calamity Jane is still dead in Deadwood. We left the house at 9:30 in the morning and rolled in about 9:45 in the evening. Everyone is sleeping late this morning!
We got word on the van ... about $500 to fix the fuel pump. Guess we don't have much choice, since we're 850 miles from home. We've been scolded about our use of ethanol. The Goodyear shop here claims that ethanol gums up the fuel system of a car over time. Has anyone else been told that? All this time I thought I was just being a good Iowan and supporting my local farmers by using ethanol -- and saving 10 cents each time I filled up.
We'll be back in Cedar Rapids on Sunday. It will be nice to be in my own bed, but our vacation has been wonderful.

I don't know whether ethanol gums up the fuel pump, but have had gummy Iowa sweet corn, so who knows? However, I've used ethanol for years, and don't recall ever replacing a fuel pump. (I am careful, though, to still buy ethanol on vacation, even when it is 10 cents per gallon more, rather than 10 cents per gallon less.)
Looking forward to your review of the sites...
